about

Soon after we married in 1986, my beloved wife Sara and I moved to Mevo Modiim, a.k.a. "the Carlebach Moshav" - a tiny village in what was then the middle of nowhere and is now the acknowledged center of Israel. The Moshav was surrounded on three sides by the Ben Shemen Forest where I went daily to pray, pick capers or asparagus depending on the season, or just get away from my neighbors. Sadly, the forest was decimated by a fire in 2019 as was our house (but that's another story). Once in a while I was able to convince Sara to join me on my trek - always a romantic and inspiring experience. This is how I cajoled her...

lyrics

I'm going walking in the deep deep forest
Wildflowers underneath the trees
Birds up high joining in the chorus
Sara Rina won't you come with me

Every stone in this creation
Inside is buzzing like a bumblebee
Telling the story of another civilization
Sara Rina won't you come with me

Sara Rina won't you come with me
Slow me down when I go too fast
Taking every moment's notice
Drink it deep before it's past

Somewhere in England 60 years ago
You first opened up your eyes to see
I was calling you from San Francisco
Sara Rina won't you come with me

Not so long ago at your suggestion
Pardon the informality
I took your hand and I popped the question
Sara Rina won't you come with me

Sara Rina won't you come with me
Wind me up when I'm slowing down
Keeping my both eyes on the horizon
Keeping my both feet on the ground
