about

Probably the centerpiece of the album, this song is my musical manifestation of the precept "in every generation everyone must see himself as if he personally left Egypt" - this, of course from the Passover Haggadah. The obvious counterpart to this is "in every generation [other nations] stand over us [Jews] to annihilate us - and God saves us from them." Unfortunately the former is true; fortunately so is the latter - may it be so once again!

lyrics

Rock of Zion

Midnight Smoke on the horizon
Moonlight Full moon risin'
I'm running But I don't know where
Guess I'll find out If I ever get there

Master The shackles are broken
My back is busted But the gates are open
I'll be standing At the edge of the sea
I may drown there But at least I'll be free

O-o-o Rock of Zion
Sea torn asunder
O-o-o Rock of Zion
Steeds going under
O-o-o Rock of Zion
Lightning and thunder
O-o-o Rock of Zion
Glory and wonder

Midnight The tables are turning
Your houses are empty Your bridges are burning
I'm leaving This city in black
Full moon rising And I won't look back

Master Your children are dying
Your mothers are weeping Your sisters are sighing
I built these Pyramids of plenty
But you were too greedy Now your coffers are empty

O Rock of Zion...

Is this my sacred oasis
True home in the sun
Lord of the seventy faces
Please show me just one

Sunrise It must be tomorrow
Strange cloud Beckons me to follow
Off in the distance A mountain awaits
Seventy faces Seventy fates

O Rock of Zion...
